Welcome to Central Region Younger Member Council (CRYMC)

2009 Central Region Younger Member Council

The 2009 Central Region Younger Member Council was held January 9th & 10th in Denver, Colorado at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center in conjunction with the Workshop for Section and Branch Leaders and the Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders at the Regions 3, 6 & 7 Multi Region Leadership Conference.  In attendance were 42 Younger Members from Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin.

For information on the 2010 Central Region Younger Member Council to be held in Cleveland, Ohio and tentatively scheduled for January 22nd & 23rd, please contact Marie Maly at mmaly@schemmer.com, or the 2010 Chair, Carolyn Young at ctyoung@transystems.com.

The Colorado Section volunteered to host the 2009 leadership conference to coincide with the Section’s 100th Anniversary.  This is a benchmark achievement for the Section, and the Section was very excited to have Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper as the keynote speaker for the Centennial Celebration held on January 8th to help kick-off the weekend long leadership conference.

During the conference, attending members were able to learn more about their Society, interact with their Governors and Society leadership, earn some professional development hours, network with their peers from different cities around the country, and enjoy some of the local flair in the evenings.  Sessions included Generational Differences, RTD’s FasTracks Program, the Report Card for America’s Infrastructure, Committee on Younger Member Report, and Roundtable Discussions.  Available Power Points from these sessions are linked below:

In a move to encourage and reward those Younger Members going above and beyond in their local group the Central Region YMC introduced the inaugural Central Region Younger Member Council Awards, and during the business meeting on January 10th, the five awards listed below were added to the Central Region YMC Bylaws making them a permanent fixture for future leadership conferences.  Award winners for 2009 were:

The post conference activities included a tour of the Coors Brewery along with some free samples, a stop at the world renowned Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and another night on the town.  On Sunday, members of the Colorado Section YMG invited remaining attendees to join them in the mountains to do some skiing in a very unofficial and absolutely unsanctioned ASCE event.  Good times were had by all.

Many thanks go to the entire planning committee, the numerous sponsors, Nancy Berson from ASCE’s Geographic Services Department, and Marie Maly with the Committee on Younger Members.  Members of the untiring conference planning committee were Erin Trahan, Colin Haggerty, Melanie Mahoney, Emily Allen, Jenifer Wadlow, Amy Hui, and Lisa Stice.

Thank you to our sponsors!
